Marble Falls High School freshman swimmer Kealin Alford’s swimming season came to an end at the Class 4A Region IV meet Feb. 3.
Alford was 11th out of 16 swimmers in her preliminary heat in the breaststroke, clocking 1 minute and 21.89 seconds Feb. 2. Her time advanced her to the consolation heat Feb. 3 where she was third with a time of 1:23.72.
Coach Jamie Graham said this experience will help her moving forward.
“She is a typical freshman — big eyed and inexperienced,” he said. “She never shied away from a challenge and always competed hard. She was content and confident enough to just go out and swim her race and let the results speak for themselves. I don’t think she overachieved because we always had the goal of making it out district.”
At the District 13-4A meet Jan. 19, she finished third in the final by in 1:26.96.
“This season’s results just solidified her belief in doing the work and the results will come,” Graham said. “She wants to get more people swimming with her to make the work more enjoyable.”
He believes this season’s results only motivate Alford to do even better next season.
“Next year I would say she wants to improve her times each meet, but her bigger goal would be to improve participation in our swim team,” he said. “It isn’t easy to practice by yourself without teammates every day and then compete that same way. She wants to qualify for state and realizes hard work will get her there as she improves her times.”
